A Camas sweep
The Camas High School boys and girls cross country teams repeated as district champions Thursday, at Lewisville Park in Battle Ground.
Yacine Guermali won the boys race for the Papermakers with a time of 15 minutes, 55 seconds. Daniel Maton followed in second place in 16:20. Jackson Lyne took seventh place (16:59), Nick Duffy notched eighth place (17:00), David Connell claimed 10th place (17:11), Nicholas Carter earned 12th place (17:37) and Cade Greseth grabbed 14th place (17:37).
The district title goes to the team with the lowest score. The Camas boys combined for 28 points, Skyview secured second place with 56 points and Union settled for third place with 66 points.
Emma Jenkins captured first place for the Papermakers in the girls race with a time of 18:39. Ellie Postma placed third (19:17) and Halle Jenkins finished in fourth (19:28). Madison Child clinched sixth place (19:39) and Rachel Blair earned eighth place (20:12). Kaylee Merritt claimed 11th place (20:31) and Hailee Parman notched 18th place (21:44).
The Camas girls dropped their team score down to 22 points. Skyview came in second place with 46 points and Union took third place with 60 points.
This was just the first step for the Papermakers on their quest to the state championship meet Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
The next hurdle to clear is the bi-district championships Saturday, Oct. 29, at the American Lake Golf Course in Tacoma.
